How to operate a P50 foam fire extinguisher

Begin by holding the P50 extinguisher upright, either in your hand or placed securely on the ground at a safe distance from the flames. First, rotate the safety pin to break the tamper seal.

Next, remove the pin and unclip the hose. Direct the hose at the base of the fire ensuring that you operate no closer than 2 metres away from the fire.

Holding the handle in your hand, slowly squeeze to release the extinguisher's contents, aiming it across the fire. As the flames begin to diminish, you can gradually move closer.

Make sure the fire is completely out, then release the handle to stop. Keep an eye on the area for any signs of re-ignition.

Remember, only use an extinguisher for small fires. If the fire is too large to handle, evacuate the area immediately, alert others, and call the fire and rescue service.
